3 Clinics for Rabies Vaccinations Planned

Three low-cost rabies vaccination clinics for cats and dogs will be offered by the Southern California Veterinary Medical Assn. and city Animal Services department beginning Tuesday.

State, county and city laws require that dogs 4 months and older be vaccinated against rabies, said Richard Holden, the association’s executive director. Vaccinations for other canine and feline diseases--although not required by law--are strongly recommended by veterinarians for the well-being of pets.

Rabies inoculations provide three years’ protection for dogs and cats 1 year and older and one-year protection for dogs 4 months to 11 months and cats 3 months to 11 months. The cost of a rabies vaccination will be $4 for both cats and dogs.

Other vaccinations will also be administered at the clinics. For dogs, a general six-in-one vaccination for $12 and two other inoculations, coronavirus and bordetella, each $9, will be available. Cats can receive a four-in-one vaccination for $12.

Volunteer veterinarians will staff the clinics. All dogs must be on a leash and cats must be in pet carriers.

Clinics in the Valley are:

* 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Woodland Hills Recreation Center, 5858 Shoup Ave.

* 3 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday at North Hollywood Recreation Center, 5301 Tujunga Ave.

* 7 to 8:30 p.m. Jan. 20 at Studio City Recreation Center, 12621 Rye St.
