Times Overlooks Positive News

Share

After weeks of bad press about Westlake High School because of the wrestling hazing incident, I was shocked to read a positive article about the WHS seniors who were accepted early to Harvard--namely, myself, Sarah Koppel, Erin Sheley and “Pedro” the broomstick.

Congratulations to Pedro for his outstanding achievement!

In fact, I don’t see how anybody could label The Times “misleading,” since it makes perfect sense to insert a “news” item about the wrestling incident in an article headlined “Harvard Accepts Trio From Westlake High.”

Perhaps a more accurate headline would have been: “Three Students Accepted to School and Another Pedro News Flash.”

Although there are comical aspects to the strange juxtaposition of those events in one story, I speak for the students of Westlake High School when I say that if the L.A. Times and other news media are experiencing such a dearth of news that you have to repeatedly rehash a month-old story, then let me introduce you to the other members of the WHS student body who right now are doing awesome things to better our school and community.

Someone at WHS could change the world, but the L.A. Times and other newspapers wouldn’t see it anyway, as long as they continue smugly sniffing for scandal on the locker-room floor.
