Study Examines Wildlife Habitat, Recreation Issues

Share

A Cal Poly Pomona study outlines how a corridor running across hilltops from Whittier to the Chino Hills can continue to exist as a wildlife habitat while recreational opportunities are expanded and development edges closer.

“This preliminary study explores how to integrate compatible recreational uses with animal corridors,” said Faustinos.

The study recommends that recreation in the undisturbed interiors of the hills be restricted to quiet activities such as nature walks, said Belinda Faustinos of the Wildlife Corridor Conservation Authority. The group is composed of the cities of Whittier, La Habra Heights, Diamond Bar and Brea, and the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy, said Faustinos.
