Fargas Keeping Quiet

Antonio Fargas, father of Notre Dame High tailback Justin Fargas, said Tuesday that his son will likely announce his college choice next week.

Antonio Fargas said he is acting as Justin’s spokesman because of overwhelming media attention. Justin made an official visit to Michigan last weekend.

“I’m trying to shield him because five [reporters] called him within an hour of him getting home from Michigan,” Antonio Fargas said. “He liked [Michigan] and he has to figure out what he’s going to do.”

Justin, The Times’ Valley player of the year in 1996 and 1997, also made an official visit to UCLA and said in December that he would visit Northwestern this weekend and USC on Jan. 23-24.

“Next week he’ll be more at liberty to announce his decision, which should be imminent then,” Antonio Fargas said.

BASKETBALL

Bad day: When Saugus defeated Hart, 63-60, in overtime Friday, it marked the first time in three seasons the Centurions had beaten the Indians.

Hart boys’s Coach David Montgomery pulled no punches expressing displeasure in his team.

“I was disappointed with our attitude from the moment we got on the bus till the moment we got off,” Montgomery said. “In this league it’s whoever plays the hardest and right now that’s not us.”
