Reward for Information on Killers Rises $5,000
Angered by the killing of a South-Central Los Angeles grocery store owner, a local businessman has matched a $5,000 reward offered by the Korean American Grocers Assn. for information leading to the arrest of those responsible.
The businessman, who asked to remain anonymous, contacted the association Monday night after hearing that Yon Duk Chong was shot to death during a robbery at his Central Avenue market. The association’s executive director, Krystine Park, said the businessman is not Korean.
Many Korean American merchants have expressed concern about the killing because Chong’s wife gave the two suspects $3,000 from the cash register before they shot her husband.
“From what I’m hearing from other retailers . . . it just didn’t make sense,” Park said.
