From Times Wire Reports

A federal judge in Lubbock ruled that the ex-mistress of former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Henry G. Cisneros is mentally fit to stand trial on fraud and conspiracy charges. U.S. District Judge Sam Cummings rejected defense attorney David Guinn’s motion that the trial should be postponed for three months so a distraught Linda Jones could go to a mental hospital. Jones and co-defendants Patsy and Allen Ray Wooten, her sister and brother-in-law, are accused of taking out a loan in the Wootens’ name for a house that was to be bought by Jones. Prosecutors say they were trying to cover up that Jones’ money had been supplied by Cisneros. Jury selection is scheduled to begin today.
