Referee Is Knocked Out

Referee Ted Hillary, who continued to work after being struck in the nose in the opening seconds of Wednesday night’s Arkansas-Florida game at Fayetteville, Ark., was taken from the court on a stretcher early in the second half.

Arkansas spokesman Bill Rogers said Hillary was having continued dizzy spells. He was hospitalized and released.

New Mexico junior center Kenny Thomas said he plans to return to school next season rather than make himself eligible for the NBA draft. Thomas has had nine double-doubles this season and is averaging 18 points and 9.4 rebounds. . . . Anthony Boone, the starting center for No. 11 Mississippi, was expected to begin rehabilitation today, one day after undergoing arthroscopic surgery to repair torn cartilage in his left knee in Oxford, Miss. . . . Senior guard LaRon Campbell-Hall has quit the team at San Jose State for “personal reasons,” Coach Stan Morrison said. . . . Wagner College junior center Frantz Pierre-Louis pleaded not guilty at his arraignment on rape charges in New York and has been indefinitely suspended from the team.
