Deal in Works for Daigle?

General Managers Jack Ferreira of the Ducks and Pierre Gauthier of the Ottawa Senators on Monday neither confirmed nor denied they are working on a deal that would bring right wing Alexandre Daigle to Anaheim.

“No,” Ferreira said when asked if had talked to Gauthier about trading for Daigle. Asked if he would say so if had, Ferreira said, “No.”

Gauthier, Duck assistant general manager for 2 1/2 seasons, also was cagey when asked about dealing with his former team.

“We have a lot of former Ducks in Ottawa,” he said, smiling. He then proceeded to name the four ex-Ducks now playing for the Senators.

The Senators reportedly are interested in trading Daigle, but Gauthier would not confirm that.

Daigle he has failed to live up to the enormous expectations placed upon him when he was taken by the Senators as the top overall pick in the 1993 draft.

He is the Senators’ seventh-leading scorer this season with 16 points in 38 games.

Defenseman Pavel Trnka, who suffered a mild concussion in the second period of Monday’s 3-2 loss to the Kings, did not play Wednesday against the Colorado Avalanche.

“[Matt] Johnson just hammered me,” Trnka said. “I fell and hit my head on the ice. I’m feeling good already. [Tuesday] I was still dizzy. It’s a good thing it’s the All-Star break.”
