Council Goes on Record in Support of School Bond

Share

The City Council has approved a resolution supporting a $44-million school bond measure--to go before the voters April 14--that would pay for repairs and upgrades at local campuses.

On Tuesday, council members unanimously approved the resolution, saying it was time to show support for the local schools.

The city of Duarte makes up much of the Duarte Unified School District. School board members placed the issue on the April ballot. The measure, which requires the approval of two-thirds of those voting, would cost each homeowner $59 annually for every $100,000 in assessed value.

But Duarte Unified also includes an unincorporated area and the tiny city of Bradbury.

Bradbury has a population of less than 1,000 and a median home price of just over $500,000, far higher than Duarte. The Bradbury council has yet to support the measure. Few of Bradbury’s more than 200 school-age children attend the local public school system.
