Extension Granted for Report on Kaczynski
The court-appointed psychiatrist who conducted a weeklong examination of alleged Unabomber Theodore Kaczynski is scheduled to give her confidential report to U.S. District Judge Garland E. Burrell Jr. today, after receiving a one-day extension.
Dr. Sally Johnson, a U.S. Board of Prisons psychiatrist based in North Carolina, examined Kaczynski for 19 hours at the Sacramento County jail to determine whether he is mentally competent to stand trial.
The judge will use the report to find out whether, in Johnson’s opinion, Kaczynski is mentally fit to understand the charges and whether he can assist his lawyers.
