Rain Expected to Begin Week, Then Clear Out

Another dose of rain is expected today, accompanied by occasional gusting winds and lower temperatures, forecasters said.

Although the workweek might be getting off to a dreary start, it should only improve, at least weather-wise, the forecasters say.

Up to one inch of rain could fall along the coast, tapering to about half an inch inland, said Kevin Stenson, a meteorologist with WeatherData of Wichita, Kan., which provides forecasts for The Times.

The cold front could also bring thunderstorms and wind gusts of up to 35 mph, but the winds and the rain should leave by evening, Stenson said.

The rain is the result of a system moving in from the Northwest, a typical Southern California winter weather pattern, he said.

Tuesday will be mostly sunny, with temperatures in the mid-60s, Stenson said.

“It should be pretty pleasant, with no more rain for the rest of the week,” he said.

Sunday’s cloudy skies brought air temperatures ranging from 63 in Newport Beach to 68 degrees in Dana Point, which also reported .02 inch of rain.

Overnight lows were in the mid-50s.
