Schools Ask OCTA to Reduce Bus-Pass Fee

The school district is asking the Orange County Transportation Authority to reduce bus-pass fees for high school students.

Overcrowding in Santa Ana Unified School District has prevented some students from attending the high schools they normally would, Deputy Supt. John Bennett told the OCTA board of directors last week.

And the school district, Bennett said, doesn’t have the resources to bus every student. Many students do not have access to a car, he added.

Bennett asked that monthly bus passes be reduced to $20.

Students already qualify for reduced monthly rates--$33.50 instead of $37.50--OCTA spokesman John Standiford said.

But Standiford said OCTA is considering reducing rates further and will take Bennett’s remarks into account.
