Parks to Be Honored, Speak to Residents

Los Angeles Police Chief Bernard Parks will be honored at a community dinner by the Sunland-Tujunga Chamber of Commerce Friday and speak at a meeting of the Encino Property Owners Assn. on Wednesday.

Friday’s event will begin at 6 p.m. with cocktails, followed by dinner at 7 p.m., at the Sunland-Tujunga Elks Lodge, 10137 Commerce Ave., Tujunga.

“Any officer that has gone up the ladder as Bernard Parks has should definitely be recognized,” said Kathy Anthony, past president of the Sunland-Tujunga chamber. “We support him and we’re looking forward to working with him.”

At the Encino meeting, Parks will discuss matters of public safety such as use of computer technology to combat and prevent crime, and what residents can do to assist the Los Angeles Police Department, said Bill Jasper, association president.

The police chief will also field questions from the 200 to 300 Encino residents who are expected to attend the free meeting, he said.

“It’s important for the residents of Encino to be able to meet the police chief face to face and to express their concerns with regard to public safety,” Jasper said.

The Encino meeting, which is open to the public, begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Encino Community Center, 4935 Balboa Blvd.
