“I’m not at liberty to discuss the situation,” Wagner said. “That’s a personnel issue.”

Gilmore, who is a teacher at the school, was fired Jan. 14, one day after the Eagles lost to Highland, 80-75. He said school officials told him not to comment.

“All I can say officially is that I was relieved of my duties and it was not my choice,” he said. “I’m disappointed and surprised and I’m not finished yet.”

Gilmore, who started the boys’ basketball program when the school opened in 1995, said he will challenge the firing.

Michael, moved up from the junior varsity, guided Lancaster to its first Golden League victory, 81-62 over Littlerock, in his varsity debut Friday.

Lancaster, in its first season of varsity competition, is 5-13, 1-3 in league play.
