Fitch Not Big on Milestones

Share

Bill Fitch, the only coach in NBA history to lose 1,000 games, needs two wins to pass Red Auerbach and become the second-winningest coach in league history.

Look for Fitch, 937-1,072 in 26 seasons, to downplay the milestone.

When Fitch moved into third place ahead of Dick Motta after the Clippers’ 110-102 victory over Vancouver on Jan. 7, he dismissed it as a factor of longevity.

With forward Loy Vaught sidelined for the season because of a back injury, Rodney Rogers has emerged as the most consistent Clipper.

He had a season-best 29 points in last Thursday’s three-point victory at New Jersey.

Rogers, the Clippers’ leading scorer in 14 games, had 22 points in the first half of Saturday’s loss at Washington. He sat out the second half after being poked in the left eye by Wizard forward Chris Webber.

Rogers wore goggles to protect the eye in Monday’s loss at Minnesota and scored a team-high 24 points, making 11 of 23 shots. He played 45 minutes, including the entire second half.
