A veteran Los Angeles police detective accused of trying to intimidate potential witnesses at the 1996 stalking trial of her boyfriend will be arraigned Jan. 28, authorities said.

Connie Howell, 46, was scheduled to be arraigned in Los Angeles Municipal Court on Thursday.

The proceeding was postponed at the request of her attorney, said Deputy Dist. Atty. Daniel B. Feldstern.

Howell, a 13-year veteran detective assigned to the LAPD’s Central Division, is charged with stalking, attempting to dissuade a witness by force or threat, and illegal use of Los Angeles Police Department computer records.

The charges stem from the trial of Howell’s boyfriend, Gordon Elliot Acker, a three-strike felon. He was convicted and sentenced to prison for 60 years to life.

Howell, who faces a maximum of seven years in prison if convicted on all charges, is being held on $425,000 bail.
