Foundation, United Way Help Agencies Feed Hungry

Share

The Ralphs/Food 4 Less Foundation and United Way of Greater Los Angeles have teamed up to provide $100,000 to 13 agencies providing free food to hungry people in the county.

The donation is part of the “Fighting Hunger 365 Days a Year” program, and comes at a time when food-providing agencies struggle most to feed the people they serve, said Ari Swiller, the foundation’s executive director.

“The problem of hunger exists 365 days a year,” Swiller said. “Sadly, many agencies that serve those faced with hunger find their resources stretched thin when donations decline after the December holidays. It is our hope that by teaming with United Way, we will call attention to the persistent problem of hunger in Los Angeles County.”

The Ralphs/Food 4 Less Foundation is the nonprofit arm of Ralphs Grocery Co., Southern California’s largest supermarket chain.

The Los Angeles Regional Foodbank will get $25,000 of the grant to help provide 175,000 pounds of food to charities that serve infants, children and youths, Swiller said.
