Angel Caravan to Include Players, Coaches

The Angels announced plans Friday for players, coaches, broadcasters and staff to participate in the club’s first caravan tour throughout Southern California.

The caravan begins Wednesday and continues daily--except Feb. 1--ending with a two-day tailgate event Feb. 7-8 at Edison International Field of Anaheim.

Among those scheduled to participate are Jim Edmonds, Todd Greene, Jason Dickson, Dave Hollins, Gary DiSarcina and Mike Holtz, former Angel pitcher Clyde Wright, Manager Terry Collins and coach Larry Bowa.

Fans also will get a chance to meet General Manager Bill Bavasi and broadcasters Steve Physioc and Mario Impemba.

The National Classic prep baseball tournament has a new sponsor. ARCO, the major sponsor for CIF championships in such sports as football, basketball and baseball, will support the April 13-16 tournament, now in its ninth year.

Iran Novick, tournament director, said county teams playing in this year’s tournament are Division I champion Esperanza, El Dorado, Santa Margarita and Mater Dei.

Other entries include teams from Kentucky, Florida, New Jersey, Tennessee, Nevada, Virginia and Oregon.

The championship game will be played April 16 at Cal State Fullerton.

Previous tournament sponsors have been the Upper Deck card company and the Dole food company.

John Lee has resigned as women’s volleyball coach at Southern California College so he can further his education. Lee was an assistant at SCC for four years before becoming head coach the last two years.
