Castro Daughter Applies for Asylum in Spain
Alina Fernandez Revuelta, a daughter of Cuban President Fidel Castro, has requested political asylum in Spain, according to news reports Sunday.
She applied for asylum Friday, the Madrid daily El Pais reported.
Fernandez left Cuba in 1993 using a fake Spanish passport, and she declared her father a torturer, drug smuggler and terrorist. She flew to Atlanta after her asylum request in the United States was granted.
A former fashion model who has been divorced four times, Fernandez remade her life in New York, where she currently lives. It was unclear why she was seeking asylum.
It was also not clear whether she would be granted asylum in Spain because she is not being persecuted by the Cuban government, and El Pais said her U.S. residence permit allows her to enter and leave freely.
