Santa Ana Fire Chief Marc Martin has been selected as this year’s president of the Orange County Fire Chiefs Assn., which represents the county’s 13 fire departments.

Martin began his career with the Fullerton Fire Department in 1974. He moved through the ranks there, serving as a paramedic at one point, and was appointed chief in 1992. Martin moved to Santa Ana three years later.

The chiefs association meets monthly to discuss fire protection and emergency services issues. Current topics of concern include the impact of managed health care on emergency services, emergency response to terrorism, and dispatch and communication technology.

“While there are 13 fire departments in the county, we are prepared to operate as one during a large-scale disaster,” Martin said.

The chief lives in Placentia with his wife and two daughters.
