3 Held in Attempted Burglary of Home

Three people were arrested Thursday on suspicion of burglarizing a home during daylight hours while the owner was home, police said.

“This is certainly unlike what we’re used to here,” said Simi Valley Police Lt. Rex Jones, referring to Simi Valley’s status as one of the safest large cities in the nation.

About 10:40 a.m. Thursday, the owner of a house in the 500 block of Stonebrook Street called 911 to say people were trying to break into his home, Jones said.

When officers arrived, they saw two people trying to enter the house through a side window. One of the suspects, a 17-year-old from Simi Valley, was taken into custody, but the other ran off, Jones said.

Police surrounded the area and brought in a police dog to conduct a house-to-house search. Solomon Bullington, 20, of Moorpark, was discovered on a roof in the 400 block of Sinaloa Road and arrested, Jones said.

Heather Gray, a 20-year-old from Moorpark, was arrested at Sinaloa and Dodd Street. Investigators said they suspect she was to be the get-away driver.

Gray and Bullington were both booked into Ventura County Jail on suspicion of burglary, Jones said. The 17-year-old was taken to Juvenile Hall.

A 17-year-old Moorpark boy who was with Gray also was questioned, but he was released pending further investigation, Jones said.
