Migraine sufferers will soon have another treatment option. Merck & Co. won Food and Drug Administration approval to sell its drug Maxalt by prescription in both quick-dissolving and standard-tablet forms. The quick-dissolving migraine treatment, the first to win FDA clearance, can be taken without water, so it can be taken easily and discreetly to ward off a fast-approaching migraine, a researcher for Merck said. Merck said it will offer the drug at a wholesale price of $11.25 per tablet and expects a retail price of $14.06 to $14.63 per tablet.
