Driver Arrested After Crash Kills 2, Injures 1

An alleged drunk driver whose truck hit a compact car Monday, killing two people and badly injuring a third, has been booked on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and was being held on $1-million bail, authorities said Monday.

Lino Arenas, 38, of Pomona also faces charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, Pomona Police Sgt. Paul Capraro said.

Shortly before 1 a.m., Arenas was driving his truck on North Dudley Street when he broadsided a compact car near Laurel Avenue, police said.

A 50-year-old woman in the car died at the scene of the collision. The 52-year-old man who was driving the car was taken to Pomona Valley Medical Center and died a short time later. Another woman passenger was also taken to the hospital and treated for major injuries, police said.

The victims’ names were not released pending notification of family members.
