The Area Housing Authority of Ventura County will host an open house and building dedication Thursday at its new headquarters in Newbury Park.

The event starts at 10 a.m. at the new 18,000-square-foot location at 1400 W. Hillcrest Drive. The housing authority moved into the building earlier this year after consolidating its operations and services.

Authority officials said the new building is more centrally located to most of the housing units the organization owns, manages and operates.

“For the first time in many years, the entire staff of the Area Housing Authority now works under the same roof,” said Anthony Bellasalma, chairman of the authority’s board of commissioners.

“The consolidation of services will greatly increase the staff’s ability to provide quality low-income housing and related services to the public.”

The housing authority owns and manages about 350 units of public housing across the county and administers a federal rent subsidy program that encompasses 2,800 units in seven jurisdictions, including Thousand Oaks, Simi Valley and Camarillo.
