Memorial Scheduled for School Official
A memorial service will be held Wednesday for Art Becker, chief business official of the Garden Grove Unified School District, who died Monday after a long struggle with cancer. He was 61.
A graduate of Brooklyn College, Becker joined the district in 1973 as personnel director. In 1985, he was named assistant business manager and was promoted to business manager two years later. He was named chief business official in 1995, holding responsibility for all district financial issues.
Known for his openness, warmth and humor, the Los Alamitos resident was considered an expert in school finance, according to district officials.
In addition to his work at the school district, he served as a member on the Personnel Commission of the Los Alamitos Unified School District.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara, a teacher at Barker Elementary School in Garden Grove; a daughter, Gail; three sons, Mark, Jeffrey and Robert; and two grandchildren.
The service will be held at noon at Hillside Memorial Park in Los Angeles.
