Pair Sentenced in Baby’s Death

Share

Re “2 Ex-Sweethearts Get Short Prison Terms in Baby’s Death,” July 10: Amy Grossberg and Brian Peterson are two vicious murderers and both should have been convicted of a capital offense and not allowed to plea-bargain. They killed an innocent child who could not defend himself. It was, in my estimation, a premeditated crime on their part and they should have been sentenced to what is commensurate in the state of Delaware with a capital crime. Initially, both were charged with murder but at some point allowed to plea-bargain to manslaughter and thus a light sentence.

I am appalled by the ruling and a justice system that continues to negotiate the truth!

The Grossberg girl and her boyfriend who killed their just-born baby are not a danger to society. My taxes do not need to be used to protect me from them. It would be better for everyone to allow them to become productive (no pun intended) members of society. I would prefer that my taxes be spent on incarceration of pedophiles, rapists, gang members, haphazard murderers--people from whom society members must be protected.

Government judgment never ceases to amaze me.

Oh xenophobia where is thy sting? Arianna Huffington (“New Synonym for Murder: ‘Bad Decision,’ ” Column Right, July 14) extends the Russian Potemkin metaphor to its fullest extreme. In a fine imitation of Catherine the Great’s alter ego, Arianna the Good wants us to judge the horrible baby deaths only on the fact that they happened, without any look at the circumstances of the cases. Just forget the U.S Constitution. There are some things worth being totalitarian for.

You can take the little girl out of the foreign justice system but you can’t take the foreign justice system out of the little girl.
