A morning of biscuits and bunker gear is in store for Newport Beach residents who share breakfast with their local firefighters and police officers today.

The breakfast is part of the eighth anniversary celebration at Newport Beach Plaza, 1455 Superior Ave., a residential retirement community of about 150.

“It’s also to honor the firefighters and the paramedics that take such good care of us,” said plaza general manager Connie Marvick.

In addition to sharing sausage links and hash browns, attendees can examine a hook-and-ladder fire truck, an ambulance and attendant equipment, Marvick said.

The complimentary breakfast is open to the public and will run from 7:30-10 a.m.

During the event, a knitting and sewing group from Newport Beach Plaza will present a dozen homemade blankets to the police and firefighters to use when they go on calls, to comfort fire victims, abused children and others in need, Marvick said.
