Local Rotarian Elected to International Board

* Samuel Greene of Westlake Village was elected to serve as a member of the Rotary International Board of Directors.

Delegates representing the more than 28,000 Rotary Clubs from 159 countries cast their ballots at the association’s annual convention in Indianapolis.

Greene, a Rotarian since 1957, is president and owner of S.L. Green Associates, an international consulting firm. He will serve two years beginning in 1999 as one of 18 members of the board. The board develops policies and establishes priorities for the global network of 1.2 million volunteers.

Newbury Park High Theater Awarded $500

* Newbury Park High School’s drama theater received a $500 grant from the Andy Fox Charitable Community Fund. The fund was founded by the Thousand Oaks city councilman and has been administered since 1997 by the Ventura County Community Foundation.

Westlake Club’s Crime-Fighting Efforts Noted

* The Westlake Women’s Club received the state attorney general’s award for its efforts in the field of crime prevention.

Betty Horner of Westlake Village was honored in the award for the club, which was cited for “outstanding crime prevention services on behalf of the community.” Horner has been a member of the club for 22 years and also participates in the 50-member Thousand Oaks Police Department Volunteers in Policing group.
