Articulated Buses

“Purchase of 20 Las Vegas Buses OKd by MTA Panel” (July 16) mentioned that the MTA may be considering buying articulated (“accordion-like”) buses from Harris County MTA in Houston, if they can run on L.A. streets. Most likely they can.

Up until 10 years ago, the then-RTD used to operate articulated buses primarily on Wilshire and Hollywood boulevards. As for turning, MTA will most likely place them on lines that predominantly travel straight on one street, like Wilshire. Articulated buses actually negotiate turns like a 35-foot bus, five feet shorter than a standard MTA bus.
