Boys & Girls Club to Host Benefit Show

A benefit concert featuring “Ronnie and the Classics,” a show band that performs tunes of the 1950s, will take place Aug. 1 in the gymnasium of the Boys & Girls Club of Simi Valley.

Proceeds from the concert will cover the cost of summer boxing camp for low-income youths. At 6:30 p.m., a dinner of hamburgers and milkshakes will be served. The concert starts at 8 p.m.

Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Students pay $10 in advance or $12.50 at the door. Tickets are on sale at several places including Kid Gloves Boxing, 2381 Tapo St. and the Boys & Girls Club at 2850 Lemon Drive.

The boxing camp, open to youths 7 to 17, takes place Aug. 24-28 at Club Wilderness, north of Running Springs in the San Bernardino Mountains. The camp, owned by the Boys & Girls Club of Hollywood, in addition to daily instruction and participation in boxing will feature swimming, canoeing, hiking and rock climbing.

The concert is being sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Simi Valley, Kid Gloves Boxing Foundation, Retired Boxers Foundation and the Boys & Girls Club.
