City to Donate 100 Used Computers to Schools

About 100 used personal computers will be donated to the Culver City school district when computer equipment in city departments is replaced over the summer and fall, officials said.

The city is upgrading its computer system, said John Richo, the city’s director of information technology, and will begin delivering its older equipment to the school district within about two weeks.

Students and teachers will use the machines for word processing, and students who do not own computers will be able to borrow them for home use.

The 386- and 486-based machines were purchased in 1994 and refurbished in 1995 and 1996.

The donation was approved by the City Council last week. The city has previously donated computers to a senior citizens center and a youth center.
