Man Gets 7 Years for Weapons Violations

An Inglewood man who had four rocket launchers mounted on his pickup truck was sentenced to seven years in state prison Monday, a spokeswoman for the district attorney’s office said.

Bernard Leon Daniels, 46, was arrested Oct. 31 in Lomita after sheriff’s deputies noticed two flashing lights on top of his truck. They then discovered the rocket launchers, which could be operated from inside the cab, said spokeswoman Sandi Gibbons.

No rockets were found in the launchers, but deputies said the devices had been fired recently and found a .357 magnum and a grenade under the front seat, she said. The investigation led to a Gardena motel, where deputies found a cache of gunpowder.

A jury convicted Daniels in April of one count each of possessing a destructive device, possessing ingredients to make a destructive device and one count of carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle after having a prior conviction.
