Classes Canceled After Power Outage

Night classes at Moorpark College were canceled Tuesday after an electrical transformer in an underground vault broke down, causing a power outage throughout the campus.

“I’m talking to you in the dark right now,” college spokeswoman Jeanne Bailey said Tuesday afternoon.

The outage occurred at 6 a.m. when the master electrical switch, which controls the power at the college, failed.

Many day classes also were canceled Tuesday after computers and everything else dependent upon electricity shut down. Some teachers, however, conducted English, math and lecture classes outside.

“They took students to the green, grassy knolls,” Bailey said. “It was a nice, cool day to do that.”

Power was expected to be restored by Tuesday night and classes will go on as usual today, Bailey said.
