Share

An Alaska Airlines jetliner made a successful emergency landing at Burbank Airport on Thursday night after sucking a bird into one of its two engines while taking off, officials said.

The bird ended up in the right engine of the MD-80 airliner moments after the plane lifted off at 5:56 p.m. on a flight to Portland, Ore.

The damaged engine was shut down and the plane returned to the airport. None of the 95 passengers or five crew members were injured.
