People in Progress, which runs a Sunland Boulevard residence for recovering male addicts, and Oasis Women’s Recovery Community, which has a similar facility on Polk Street in Sylmar, will host the annual Gratitude Picnic on Saturday at Sun Valley Park.

The picnic marks a special milestone this year as People in Progress celebrates its eighth year in the Valley and 25th year serving Los Angeles.

Dennis O’Sullivan, People in Progress director, said the event is a way to thank sponsors, donors and staff for support.

“We look at it like, 364 days a year we ask people for support,” O’Sullivan said. “It’s a day of thanks and celebration for those we helped.”

The picnic has grown in past years, he said, from about 70 participants to hundreds.

“During the course of the day, there will be 400 to 500 people there,” O’Sullivan said.

The event welcomes sponsors, donors, alumni, current residents, staff and family or friends of those affiliated with People in Progress and Oasis Women’s Recovery Community.

O’Sullivan said the public is also invited, including those who seek help overcoming addiction.

Sun Valley Park is on Vineland Avenue between Strathern Avenue and San Fernando Road. For more information, call (818) 768-7494.
