Council to Review Wall Requirement

Concerned about safety, council members Paul Miller and Barbara Williamson today will ask the council to reverse a Planning Commission requirement for a block wall at a fast-food restaurant to be built on Los Angeles Avenue.

In June, the commission had required the 6-foot wall to be erected between the future Del Taco at 1408 Los Angeles Ave. and an office building next door.

“The Police Department had a concern that that high of a wall is a security risk, and I kind of agree with that,” Miller said.

Miller said the council might consider landscaping or a wrought-iron fence. He said a see-through barrier would make any criminal activity plainly visible.

The purpose of the wall was to block the office building to the east of the restaurant, which planning commissioners believed would not be “aesthetically pleasing” to diners, according to a staff report.
