Health Fair to Offer Free Tests on Saturday

Offering a variety of free diagnostic and screening services, the Latin American Civic Assn. will hold a community health fair Saturday in Van Nuys.

From 10 a.m. until 3 p.m., medical professionals will give vision, glaucoma, tuberculosis, diabetes and breast cancer screenings and provide immunizations. Weight, height, blood pressure and dental checkups will also be available along with free HIV testing.

Professionals will be on hand to offer general health and safety information on prenatal care, diabetes, hepatitis, lead poisoning, sexual assault and rape prevention and care, and HIV counseling. Fingerprinting will be available for children.

Along with the medical services, door prizes and face painting for children will be offered.

Among the organizations in attendance will be representatives from Los Angeles County Health Services, the Los Angeles police and Fire departments, the Mission City Community Network, Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital, the UCLA School of Dentistry, Mission Community Hospital, the L.A. Bridges Program, Chrysler Corp., the Los Angeles Free Clinic and the North Valley Eye Medical Group.

The Latin American Civic Assn. oversees 30 Head Start schools, serving about 1,400 children between the ages of 3 and 5, throughout the San Fernando and Santa Clarita valleys.

The event will be held on Blythe Street between Van Nuys Boulevard and Willis Avenue.
