Pena Retains State Super-Flyweight Title
California super-flyweight boxing champion Pedro Pena defended his title by defeating Edgar Garcia of Lakeside in a 10-round unanimous decision before 1,497 at the Irvine Marriott Thursday night.
Pena used patience in the early rounds, conserving his energy and limiting his punches to quick jabs. In the later rounds he took a more aggressive role, hitting Garcia with a series of combinations that forced him against the ropes in the ninth round and caused him to stumble.
