Several speakers at last week’s International Harvard Conference on Internet & Society used the occasion to introduce new buzzwords to the cyberlingo:

* Larry Irving, administrator of the National Telecommunications and Information Administration, called the growing number of African American kids on the Internet the “chip-hop generation.”

* High-tech guru Esther Dyson said that for digital matters, she would retire the word “privacy” in favor of “data control.”

* Several speakers urged attendees to substitute “connected” for “wired” since computer networks are increasingly being linked by wireless means.
