GOP Reprimand Becomes Censure Over Candidate Kellogg’s Mailers

Share

The campaign for Republican John Kellogg, running for the central county’s 68th Assembly District, was censured on Sunday by the Republican Central Committee of Orange County.

Kellogg’s campaign and his consultant, Chris Jones, were reprimanded Saturday for an attack mailer against opponent Ken Maddox. But the committee increased the penalty after finding that representatives of the Kellogg for Assembly Committee allegedly withheld information about a second mailer repeating the attack.

Kellogg’s first mailer claimed Maddox, 34, had “ties” to a child molester, a link based on the fact that Maddox bought space on a GOP slate mailer run by a man with a 1992 felony conviction for a sex offense.

Neither Kellogg nor Jones could be reached for comment. The mailer also cost Kellogg endorsements from officeholders.

Also in the race are Garden Grove Councilman Ho Chung; Buena Park businessman Paul Gonzales; and Westminster Councilwoman Joy L. Neugebauer.
