Habitat for Humanity Celebrates 10 Years
Habitat for Humanity of Orange County will celebrate its 10th anniversary this month with six public receptions in as many cities.
The nonprofit, ecumenical organization builds homes for families who cannot afford to buy houses. Since its inception in 1988, the Orange County chapter has built 63 homes, and 11 more are under construction. A recent project was an apartment complex in Los Alamitos for homeless women with newborn babies.
“We thought this would be a good time to pause and thank those who have helped us make the dream of family stability through home ownership come true for hard-working families in Orange County,” said Barbara Thomas, local Habitat president.
Based in Georgia, the national organization began building houses for the poor 22 years ago. Volunteers do the work, and private donations cover costs.
The Orange County receptions
will be Thursday in Huntington Beach; Sunday in Newport Beach; June 15 in Santa Ana; June 17 in San Juan Capistrano; June 24 in Brea; and June 28 in Irvine.
Seating for each free public event is limited. Information: (714) 895-4331.
