An 18-year-old Westminster man was arrested early Monday on suspicion of stealing a Camarillo man’s truck, authorities said.
About 11:55 p.m. Sunday, a 44-year-old man returned to his home on the 5000 block of Via Cupertino in the Mission Oaks neighborhood, Sheriff’s Department officials said. As he walked to his front door, a man threatened him with what appeared to be a gun, took his wallet, watch and keys and drove off in his Toyota 4Runner, officials said. The victim was not injured.
Ten minutes later, sheriff’s deputies pulled the truck over on the southbound Ventura Freeway at Rancho Road in Thousand Oaks. They arrested Hong Van Tran on suspicion of robbery and vehicle theft.
During the arrest, officials discovered a replica of a semiautomatic Sig Sauer pistol, similar to those carried by sheriff’s deputies. Tran was being held at the sheriff’s East Valley Station in lieu of $50,000 bail. Arraignment was scheduled for Wednesday.
