Kapler Honored Again by League

Gabe Kapler (Taft High, Moorpark College) was named Southern League player of the week for the second time this season, but he hasn't paused to enjoy the honor.

Kapler, an outfielder, continued his tear Sunday, going four for six, including his ninth home run for Jacksonville. After a slow start, Kapler is batting .313 with nine homers and a league-leading 62 runs batted in.

A two-run, ninth-inning double by Jayson Bass was not enough Monday night for Lancaster (32-26) in a 5-2 loss at Valley Division-leading San Jose (38-20). Lancaster completed a three-game sweep of Visalia with a 9-8 victory Sunday at the Hangar on Michael Moore's two-out, run-scoring hit off the left-field fence. Visalia catcher David Skeels of Thousand Oaks hit a double.
