“A Passage to Argentina,” the largest Argentine film festival ever to be held in Los Angeles, will showcase 32 films, both contemporary and classic, at the Music Hall in Beverly Hills. One of the highlights of the 14-day festival will be a retrospective dedicated to the great Argentine director Leopoldo Torre Nilsson. Seven of the master’s films, including “La Mano en la Trampa” and “Piedra Libre,” will be screened.

Funnyman Jim Carrey stars in the satirical comedy “The Truman Show” as Truman Burbank, an everyman who just happens to be the unwitting “star” of the ultimate soap opera--a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week television show about his life. The PG-rated film is directed by Peter Weir (“Green Card,” “Dead Poets Society”).

Milt Jackson is the distinguished vibraphonist from the Modern Jazz Quartet. The Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra is a heavyweight big band out of the Ellington tradition. Their coming together for four nights this weekend should be one swinging time.

8:15pm: Family

Gather around the campfire for “California Bound,” which will portray the experience of traveling to the West in the mid-1800s. The one-hour interactive presentation focuses on what it was like to be a sailor and whether passengers could even count on safe arrival in California. It’s part of the California State Parks’ 150th anniversary celebration of California, from Gold Rush to statehood.

Clearly on the cutting edge, cellist Michael Moser, utilizing both acoustic instrument and electronics, performs music by Isabel Mundry, Silvia Fomina, Winfried Ritsch and Bernhard Lang. The concert is part of the six-day experimental music Resistance Fluctuations Festival, which began Tuesday. Also part of the festival is a 24-hour piano work, “Serious Immobilities,” and a performance by Festival Ensembles of music by GX Juppiter-Lansen, Ritsch and others.
