A woman died Wednesday after being struck by a car in Costa Mesa, police said.
Bertha Valderrama, 61, of Santa Ana was walking home with groceries about 4 p.m. when she was hit by a car at Smalley Road and Sunflower Avenue, said traffic investigator Larry Torres of the Costa Mesa Police Department.
Valderrama was transported to Fountain Valley Regional Hospital, where she died, authorities said.
The driver, Kenneth Friedenreich, 50, of Costa Mesa, was not injured, police said, and was not detained. There was no evidence that alcohol or excessive speed were involved, Torres said.
The accident is still under investigation, he said.
