Latchkey Project

We at the 31st District PTA Latchkey Project have been very pleased to follow your recently completed series, “Summer for Kids.” It was the PTSA’s concern over the lack of elementary-age child care / enrichment activities that led to creation of this project as a pilot program at three Los Angeles Unified School District schools during the 1982-83 school year.

Since we serve 600 to 650 children at 13 Valley schools during the school year with before- and after-school programs and will offer 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. programs at seven LAUSD elementary school sites this summer for an estimated enrollment of at least 200 youngsters, we couldn’t help but wonder why we were not included.

During this summer vacation period, the Latchkey Project will accept boys and girls from any PTAschool at Calvert (Woodland Hills), Colfax (North Hollywood), Darby (Northridge), Emelita (Encino), Nestle and Tarzana (Tarzana), or Superior (Chatsworth). Questions can be answered through calls to the Latchkey Project office at (818) 996-2668.
