Tessworks, a company that features hand-painted ceramic pottery, specializes in custom work.
Artists Dawn VonFlue and Kim Swaton, co-owners of Tessworks, can match patterns, colors or themes from a swatch of fabric, wallpaper or nearly anything you can provide, including photographs.
From the client’s sample, VonFlue and Swaton, who both studied at Cal State Long Beach, design a sample plate. Upon the customer’s approval, they fill the order in about two weeks.
Custom pieces range from $33 and up, depending on the pieces ordered. In addition to the custom work, Tessworks stocks more than 150 patterns.
Each piece created is not an exact replica; it has individual differences to make it unique.
For those with pets, Tessworks, which has a kiosk in Fashion Island Newport Beach, customizes bowls for dogs and cats. Other specialty pieces are also available at Nordstrom.

The collection, available through Labor Day, features a canvas-wrapped scented candle ($18.50), an extra large bag of potpourri ($19.50) with seashells and flower petals, room spray ($9.50), a set of burn sticks ($12.50) and scented drawer liners ($15).
