Prop. 227 Protests

Share

* Re students protesting Proposition 227.

Hey kids, let me introduce you to my country, the USA. When we want to change something, we vote on it. Cutting school to “protest” a proposition after it’s already been voted on is just plain silly.

If these kids truly cared about this, why didn’t they do something before election day? If they aren’t of voting age they surely know people who are. Why didn’t they make sure these people voted against this?

Pay attention in civics class, kids. It’s real easy to cut class and go get all fired up at Plaza Park. I’m sure it was lots of fun. What’s hard is working to get something on the ballot. The people who got the proposition written and on the ballot did their work. If you don’t like something, work to change it. Not by walking out of a precious day of your education but by voting.

I wouldn’t move to France and expect to be spoken to in English. Nor would I demand special treatment for my children. I would expect to have to learn French. I would expect my children to have to learn French. If I want to only speak my native language, I’d better move to a country where my language is the same as theirs.
