THINGS ARE LOOKING DOWN

Italy’s Christian Vieri scored a couple of goals against Cameroon on Wednesday night, so his eyesight can’t be too bad.

But his ability to recognize Cameroon’s players apparently lags behind somewhat. Not to worry, Vieri had a solution.

Here is the striker’s reply when asked how he would cope with Rigoberto Song, Cameroon’s top defender:

“I don’t know their names, and I don’t recognize the Cameroon players,” he said. “I identify them by their boots. One of them has got yellow ones, another’s got a red pair and someone else has a blue pair.

“If you tell me what color boots this Song wears, I’ll tell you what I think of him.”
