Barranca Parkway Rail Idea Trounced
A light-rail system running down the center of Barranca Parkway? Not if the Irvine City Council has its way.
The council recently voted unanimously to inform the Orange County Transportation Authority that it opposes any ground-level rail system on Barranca.
The rail line proposed by OCTA would operate in a 28-mile corridor from Irvine to Fullerton.
“There’s no way a surface rail line will go down our streets in Irvine,” Councilman Greg Smith said.
OCTA brought forth the proposal after studying the issue for more than four years. The proposal was one solution it came up with to alleviate traffic congestion.
